OUR STORY
Who We Are.
The concept of the Cape Verdean Association was born in 1990 when the Founding Board purchased the historic Strand Theatre with a vision of creating a home for Cape Verdean culture. This boarded-up building, which was in deplorable condition after a fire, inspired them to make a home for Cape Verdeans here and at home on the islands. They began work zealously, rebuilt the roof, secured the building, and cleaned the interior. The non-profit CV Association in NB was incorporated in 1995. After 20-plus years and steady work by volunteers and board members, work continues with grants from the city, private benefactors, and fundraising activities to rehabilitate the building and create the Cape Verdean Cultural Community Center.
