International Women's Day

CVA-NB annually celebrates on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) one of the most important days of the year to:

  • celebrate women's achievements.

  • raise awareness about women's equality.

  • advocate for women’s issues

 

Annual events have included panel discussions, keynote
speakers, film followed by facilitated discussion, networking
event and awards event.

 

  • Attendance- over 100 people at each event from 2015-2019

  • Partners- Women’s Fund, YWCA Southeastern MA, Bristol

Community College, UMass Dartmouth, Women’s Center, and Bristol County Commission on the Status of Women

  • Locations- Whaling Museum, UMass Dartmouth, Bristol

Community College, YWCA Southeastern MA, Wamsutta Club

 

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality. CVA-NB is proud to co -sponsor this event each year.

Thanksgiving Collaboration with Tufts Health

The 2020 Thanksgiving holidays and the Covid environment brought us opportunities for community outreach and service.
 

CVANB was able to distribute a holiday turkey to fifty New Bedford families, thanks to Tufts Health Plan, which donated fifty Thanksgiving turkeys.

Cape Verdean Culture Youth Day

From 2016-2019, CVANB hosted a Cabo Verde Culture Day for forty school-age children in grades 5-8. The program was open to all students and their families. In 2016 and 2017, the program was held at Global Learning Charter Public School. In 2018 and 2019, the program was held at Keith Middle School.

 

Participants enjoyed traditional Cabo Verde food, participated in Cabo Verde History Workshops and
Interactive Group Activities focusing on Cabo Verde Music and Art, Dance. Youth also played indoor soccer and Cabo Verde Traditional Ring Games.

 

Performers included VEN C Dance Group and Batuku Music Group.

 

Partners: Global Learning Charter Public School, Keith Middle School, YWCA Southeastern MA.
