Fulfilling Our Mission
The Association for The Relief of Aged Woman or ARAW
Beginning this summer we will be offering a 30-week program of weekly social events to elderly Cape Verdean women who may not speak English or may not have access to technology, or an understanding of available community services. The program coordinator will structure these weekly social events according to the needs of the program participants and within the objective to combat loneliness and isolation, improve media skills and bring the world to people who may not have access. The grant includes transportation and guest speakers.
The Immigrants Assistance Center has offered the use of their
computer center where the socials will take place.
This fall, in partnership with Youth Opportunities Unlimited we will be offering BATUKADA lessons. Two groups of fourth and fifth graders will participate in a six-week African drumming program.
Cape Verdean Cooking Demonstartion
In partnership with Coastal Food Shed, a pop-up mobile stand, and cooking demonstration by a Cape Verdean chef will take place this summer in our adjacent lot. Cape Verdean dishes will be
made with local produce and feature local foods. Look forward to these festivities as we move outdoors.
